Karaurus from the late Jurassic is the oldest salamander known. Sordes, a Pterodactyl was the first of its type to be found with evidence of warmblooded metabolism Specimens have been found with hair-like scales covering its body, probably for insulation.

Tchoria is a champosaur, looked crocodile-like but was not a crocodilian. Speetoniceras is an ammonite, shown in cross section. Ammonites were Cephalopods related to squids and octopuses and were very common in the ocean during the age of Dinosaurs.

Hipparion, a member of the horse family, had three toes on each foot as opposed to the one toe on each foot of present day horses. Eremotherium is a giant ground sloth found in one of the local shell pits in Daytona Beach
